THE ANDY HARVARD LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE
Andy believed that shared vision, teamwork and leadership give us the power to prevail in the face of even the most difficult challenges
And to accelerate our impact, we are supporting two outdoors and environmental non-profits whose values Andy shared and whose work he admired:
Dartmouth Outing Club
Student Conservation Association
Dartmouth Outing Club
The DOC was created over 100 years ago to foster an appreciation of nature and environmental stewardship in the student body through outdoor trips, and leadership and education.
Andy Harvard joined the DOC as a student. By the time he graduated, Andy had become an accomplished mountaineer and experienced leader with skills he applied throughout the rest of his life. He returned to Dartmouth as Director of Outdoor Programs in 2004, eager to share what he had learned.
The Andy Harvard Leadership Initiative is working with the Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC) to support two particular initiatives that were particularly meaningful to Andy:
Access: your support will provide financial resources to DOC so it can support more diverse and equitable student access to the full range of DOC programs and leadership opportunities
Advanced Leadership Training: Your support will also provide tuition funding for advanced training programs in areas such as Wilderness First Responder, EMT, Advance Mountaineering and Wildland Fire Training"
Student Conservation Association (SCA)
Transforming lives through service to the land
The Andy Harvard Leadership Initiative is pleased to support the work of the Student Conservation Association (SCA) and in particular its Urban Green project.
The SCA is the nation’s largest provider of equitable, hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults.
The SCA’s mission is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of the environment and communities it serves by engaging young people nationwide through hands-on service projects.
Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks and community green spaces across the country.
PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
Urban Green
Environmental justice is central to the SCA’s mission to protect communities of color and low-income neighborhoods most affected by pollution.
The Urban Green programs create green job opportunities for youth, promote access to nature, and foster environmental stewardship. These initiatives address climate change and pollution through public-private partnerships.
Supported by AHLI, the program will enhance youth leadership and conservation workforce development in eleven major cities.
